Dangote explores Egypt investments as African expansion gathers pace

DANGOTE Group is considering expanding its industrial operations into Egypt as the Nigerian conglomerate seeks new investment opportunities across Africa.

The potential expansion emerged during a meeting between senior executives of Dangote Group and a high-powered Egyptian delegation led by the country’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Dr Mohamed Farid Saleh, at the company’s industrial complex in Lagos.

The discussions focused on investment opportunities and industrial partnerships in refining, petrochemicals, fertilisers, manufacturing and other strategic sectors.

The visit comes as Dangote Group advances its Vision 2030 expansion strategy, which aims to extend its industrial footprint across Africa and strengthen the continent’s manufacturing capacity.

Accompanied by officials from Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and executives from the country’s oil and petrochemical industries, Saleh said the delegation was seeking to translate existing diplomatic and business relations between Nigeria and Egypt into concrete investment opportunities.

He said Egypt was interested in understanding the industrial capabilities developed by Dangote Group, particularly in refining, petrochemicals and fertiliser production, to identify areas for collaboration.

“We are impressed by the scale of operations we have seen here—from refining and petrochemicals to fertiliser production,” Saleh said.

“Our objective is to identify areas where Egyptian and Nigerian businesses can collaborate, expand industrial capacities and create long-term value for both economies.”

Egypt seeks broader industrial partnership

Saleh said potential cooperation between both countries would not be limited to refinery investments, but could extend to several industries where Nigerian and Egyptian businesses have complementary strengths.

“It doesn’t have to be a refinery specifically. There are several sectors in which collaboration can happen,” he said.

The minister noted that Nigeria’s energy resources and Egypt’s industrial base could provide a foundation for partnerships in manufacturing, energy, petrochemicals, fertilisers and industrial services.

He added that stronger private-sector collaboration could promote investment flows, technology transfer, skills development and job creation in both countries.

Saleh also pointed to the combined market of approximately 400 million people in Nigeria and Egypt as a major opportunity for businesses seeking to expand production and access markets across Africa.

Dangote highlights African industrial integration

President and Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, said the engagement reflected the importance of African businesses investing across the continent to accelerate industrial development.

“This demonstrates true African integration. It reflects our belief that African businesses must invest across the continent to accelerate industrialisation and economic development,” he said.

Dangote said the visit provided an opportunity to showcase the Group’s industrial investments and identify partnerships that could strengthen production capacity in both countries.

He added that cooperation among African businesses was essential to unlocking new opportunities for industrial growth and economic development.

The engagement builds on previous interactions between Dangote Group and Egyptian business representatives at the Alamein Economic Conference and other investment forums hosted by Egypt.

Both countries are seeking to deepen private-sector participation in industrial development, with the proposed cooperation potentially creating opportunities for Nigerian companies to enter Egypt and Egyptian businesses to expand their presence in Nigeria.

The discussions could also support the development of regional supply chains and encourage African businesses to deploy capital and expertise across national borders.

For Dangote Group, Egypt represents a potential new market as it pursues its broader strategy of expanding industrial production and strengthening Africa’s position in global manufacturing.
