A Nigerian doctor has recounted the heartbreaking moment he missed several calls from his siblings while his sick father was rushed to the hospital, blaming his phone’s “Do Not Disturb” (DND) feature.

In a video shared on TikTok by @drsmile72, he revealed that his father had been seriously ill and that he regularly visited him to provide care and administer his medication.

He explained that he stayed home that day because he had not gone to work for over two weeks, alleging that the Federal Government owed workers at his workplace.

According to him, his father’s condition deteriorated and he was rushed to the hospital, his siblings repeatedly tried to reach him because their father was not being attended to. However, his phone was on DND, so he did not receive the calls.

“As at yesterday, his breathing was bad, he wasn’t talking, he was totally down. So because it’s the nanny normally takes care of him, I instructed them on what to be giving him.

My sibling called me countless times, but my phone was on DND and wasn’t ringing out. I was asleep. It was my alarm that woke me up, and that was how I saw so many missed calls and messages from my siblings,” he narrated.

He rushed to the hospital after discovering the calls but claimed he met his father lifeless on the ground.

The doctor said medical personnel later confirmed his father’s death, leaving him devastated over the calls he had missed while asleep.

He also alleged that his father was not attended to promptly because several doctors were reportedly unavailable due to unpaid salaries.
