The Imo State Government’s own spending records for the first half of 2026 carry the figures side by side. For official medical expenses (local), the records approve a provision of N1,637,551,601.20 for the year. By the end of June, N789,500,000 of it had been released, which is 48.2 per cent of the entire year’s provision spent in half a year. The records show N725,000,000 of that sum went out in the first quarter alone, in the first three months of the year, with a further N64,500,000 released in the second quarter.
ReportsNG inspection of the official records establishes what released means in the state’s own bookkeeping: money that has left the treasury, not a projection, not a promise, not a paper approval. On that footing, nearly half of everything Imo State voted for official medical provisions for the whole of 2026 was gone by the middle of the year.
In the same records, in the same health vote, stands the other line. The construction and equipping of a radiology complex at the Imo Specialist Hospital was approved at N23,026,917,651.52. A radiology complex is the diagnostic heart of a public hospital, the X-ray machines, CT scanners and ultrasound suites that tell a doctor what is wrong inside a patient’s body before treatment can begin. For the first quarter of 2026, the records show the amount released for it as zero. For the second quarter, zero again. Across six full months, the N23 billion public project did not receive one naira.
The records carry a third medical line, and it too moved. Medical consulting was approved at N231,938,000, and N12,000,000 of it was released within the same half-year. The consultants on the official side of the medical budget were paid. The official medical provisions were drawn down hard. The radiology complex built for the public at the state’s own specialist hospital was the one line in the medical book that the treasury never touched.
This is the same Imo Specialist Hospital the Uzodimma administration presents as the centrepiece of its health programme. The budget book tells the plainer story of 2026: the radiology complex was approved in full, and after two quarters of releases across the medical vote, the amount standing against that line in the records is zero.
