A commercial tricycle rider has appealed to Nigerian youths to vote wisely in the 2027 election, citing rising fuel prices, school fees and the broader economic hardship facing families.
The rider said he currently spends ₦400,000 every term on school fees for his three children, while petrol prices have risen to more than ₦1,400 per litre in some locations.
Recent reports have put petrol prices at around ₦1,400–₦1,500 per litre in parts of the country.
According to him, the financial pressure has affected his ability to provide for his family, revealing that he recently ate his first meal of the day at 5pm because of the hardship.
He said he frequently uses social media to encourage young Nigerians to think about the future of their children when making political choices.
“We are buying a litre of fuel for more than ₦1,400. I spend ₦400,000 every term on school fees for my three children. That’s why I’m always on social media, advising young Nigerians to vote wisely for the future of their children. Yesterday, I ate my first meal by 5pm because of the hardship. I don’t usually sleep at midnight; I keep thinking about what my children will eat,” he lamented.
The rider went on to express his support for Labour Party-backed political figure Peter Obi, describing him as “our last hope,” while urging Nigerians to remain firm in the 2027 election.
“Peter Obi is our last hope. Nigerians should be ready to stand their ground in the 2027 election.”
His comments come amid renewed concerns over the rising cost of petrol and its impact on transportation and household expenses.
Recent reports say petrol was selling at about ₦1,430 per litre in major cities and warned that higher fuel prices could further increase the cost of food, transport, school fees and other essentials.
