A Nigerian man living in the United Kingdom has reportedly found himself torn between his savings goals and pursuing marriage with a UK citizen as his visa deadline approaches.

The story was shared by relationship expert @jon_d_doee on X, formerly known as Twitter.

According to the relationship expert, the man moved to the UK as a student in 2024 and has been living with his sister since his arrival, an arrangement that has helped him keep his living costs low.

‘He Saves About £1,500 a Month’

The relationship expert revealed that the man now works full time and saves about £1,500 every month.

“He now works full time and saves about £1,500 a month,” he wrote.

However, the man’s future in the UK reportedly remains uncertain as he has until January 2028 to secure a sponsored job or leave the country.

“His visa clock is running. He has until January 2028 to find a sponsored job or leave the country, and sponsorship has become very hard to get,” the relationship expert stated.

‘She Talks About Marriage and Having Another Child’

According to the post, the 39-year-old man recently met a UK citizen who is originally from Nigeria.

The woman is reportedly a single mother of one and has suggested that he move in with her.

“She has suggested he moves in with her, and she often talks about marriage and having another child,” the post read.

However, the two reportedly had different expectations when they discussed their finances.

‘She Will Not Split Costs 50/50’

The relationship expert claimed that the woman made it clear she would not agree to splitting their expenses equally.

“When they sat down to talk money, she was clear: she will not split costs 50/50. She expects him to carry most of the financial load, and she said that is the only way she can respect him,” he wrote.

The financial implications reportedly became clear after they calculated their expected expenses.

“Once they ran the numbers, his monthly savings would fall from £1,500 to about £300,” he stated.

‘Financial Freedom Matters More to Him’

The man reportedly has two children in Nigeria from a previous marriage that ended because of infidelity.

The relationship expert said the man is now more concerned about maintaining his financial independence than getting married.

“He is 39. He already has two children in Nigeria from a previous marriage that ended because of infidelity,” he wrote.

“At this stage, he says financial freedom matters more to him than marriage.”

‘He Could Leave With Roughly £35,000’

The relationship expert outlined the two options reportedly facing the man.

According to him, the first option is for the man to remain with his sister, continue saving £1,500 every month and accept that he may have to leave the UK in January 2028.

“Stay with his sister, keep saving £1,500 a month, and accept that he may have to leave in January 2028 with roughly £35,000,” he stated.

The second option would involve moving in with the single mother and potentially getting married, but with a significant reduction in his monthly savings.

“Or move in with the single mother, and possibly marry, and watch most of that saving power disappear,” he added.

‘The Floor Is Open’

The relationship expert said the situation had left the man caught between the two options.

“Those are the choices in front of him,” he wrote.

He then hinted that he already had an opinion about what the man should do but decided to leave the discussion open to his followers.

“I believe you all know what my possible advise to him will be.

“So let me keep quiet and allow you all do the advise.

“The floor is open.”

The post has since sparked discussions on X, with users sharing different views on the man’s financial situation, relationship prospects and immigration deadline.
