A man has shared how a keke driver with ₦2.5m in savings immediately rejected his proposal to invest ₦2m of the money for six months in exchange for a ₦400,000 return.
According to the man, he was discussing finances with the commercial tricycle operator when the driver revealed that he had accumulated ₦2.5m in his savings account.
The man reportedly asked how long the driver intended to keep the money before needing it, prompting him to explain that he wanted to grow his savings to ₦5m before using the money to buy land.
Keke driver turns down investment proposal
The man said he then made the driver an offer involving ₦2m of his savings.
He proposed, “Give me 2M from that money then after 6Months I will pay you 2.4M.”
Under the proposal, the driver would receive his ₦2m back alongside an additional ₦400,000 after six months, rather than leaving the money untouched in his account.
However, the keke driver reportedly did not take long to consider the proposal.
Savings decision sparks financial discussion
The man said the young driver simply rejected the offer and changed the subject, despite the potential ₦400,000 gain presented in the proposal.
The encounter has drawn attention to the importance of financial literacy, particularly the need to understand different options for saving and investing money.
At the same time, the driver’s decision highlights another side of financial management, as people may prioritise protecting savings earmarked for specific goals rather than pursuing higher returns with their money.
The account has sparked discussion about whether having a clear financial goal can influence how people approach investment opportunities.
